Job description

Job Title: General Operative

Location: Poynton

Main Purpose of Role: To execute daily processing and warehouse tasks in adherence to Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, and Company Policies/Procedures.

Hours of Work: Sunday to Thursday 22.00-06.00 (Training Monday to Friday 6-2/2-10 Rotating)

Principle Responsibilities:

Key Daily Tasks:

- Collaborate within the team as needed.

- Safely operate 5-ton overhead gantry cranes in dual and single hoist operation using radio remote/pendant control, ensuring hand/body positioning considerations through task-based personal risk assessment.

- Accurately cut lengths of steel according to precise measurements from cutting notes using fully or semi-automated Band Saws/Cold saws.

- Adhere to Fire, Health & Safety Regulations, and undergo provided training.

- Act on instructions from the Foreman to meet work schedules and achieve job/production output.

- Store processed material in designated Warehouse Bay(s) safely and accessibly, aligning with company working practices.

- Conduct stock checks as required.

- Utilise Personal Protective Equipment for the assigned role (e.g., Hard hat, Safety glasses/visor, Ear defenders, Hi Viz, Overalls, Safety boots).

- Promptly report any plant defects to the Supervisor/Senior Supervisor/Works Manager.

Health & Safety - ISO45001:2018:

- Follow all safe systems of work, risk assessments, and safe working procedures in line with training.

- Perform pre-use equipment checks before using any machinery, saw, crane, mobile plant, etc.

- Follow Manual Handling tasks as per guidance and training.

- Report ALL incidents, accidents, or near misses to the Foreman or Works Manager and use the provided near-miss book.

- Seek advice from the supervisor if uncertain about anything.

Housekeeping Standards:

- Maintain daily housekeeping in all areas of the designated working bay to ensure a clean and hazard-free environment, monitored by the Foreman.

Quality Assurance to ISO 9001:2015:

- Complete all relevant paperwork to the required standard.

- Verify material with measuring equipment before cutting to ensure correct size and length for the job.

- Complete quality checks as per training or specific information on the cutting document.

- Seek advice for clarification on any unclear quality-related issue.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Attend all relevant training sessions to continually develop knowledge and skills.

- Assist in compiling written Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures for your job role.

- Perform other duties for which you are adequately trained, as requested by the Foreman or Works Manager.
